What is your Target Audience & Age Profile?

We want to resonate with fans of unique and challenging experiences that require great emotional investment, 25+ Adults with an interest in tactical turn based combat games and role playing games that allow them to tell their own stories through choices in narrative and gameplay. We are also confident that the thematic application of the mechanics will satisfy fans of science fiction stories that explore the human condition, such as the way our personalities change over time or what it means to be human, through intriguing scientific concepts like Quantum Mechanics and space exploration.

Game Concept Description (up to 100 words)

Play as a squad of inter-galactic explorers uncovering cosmic secrets about mysterious quantum planets holding the potential salvation for the last human fleet in existence. Try to keep your nerves as you fight for your survival against beings outside of human comprehension in an ever shifting environment that will change as you move through it. Explore the complexity of human personality as your choices and failures will influence your character’s behaviour and abilities, resulting in dynamic gameplay that requires you to adapt on the fly to new tactics and emergent stories that are shaped by your decisions. The procedurally generated environments, missions and narrative encounters will make every new playthrough different with it’s own set of miserable stories for your characters to suffer through.

Gameplay Description - Describe how to play the game, what is the control and reward mechanism etc. Please include references to any similar games as an example if available

The game is controlled with mouse and keyboard in a similar way to other games in its genre, the turn-based-tactics: each turn you get to control each one of your units individually, moving them on the grid, using abilities and attacking enemies. When your units are exhausted control is given to the enemy squad which will take their turn trying to interfere with your progress.

Give an overview on how you considered accessibility issues in the design of your game. (100 words)

Players not only are on a timer when playing the game, they are also timed when reading stories in the "Datapad", our textual narrative delivery system. Our biggest concern then is avoiding to exclude people with reading disabilities from being able to play the game as anyone else, and we are planning for the implementation of accessibility options that allow everyone to adjust the way they want to play, for example through a way to reduce the timing pressure.

How have you considered aspects of diversity & culture in your game design and content? (100 words)

Mankind’s March casts a diverse range of characters from various origins and cultures, both as part of the playable units and as NPCs that you can meet in the world, as one of our team member's research focus was on the representation of diverse cultures in games.

If you are successful in gaining a place in the Academy, which key areas of game development would you need support on from the mentors and tutors

As the team is mostly composed of creatives that always try to achieve their best work, we noticed that sometimes we struggle in defining the urgent priorities of the game and instead focus on minor tasks that are not that important or on adding new systems on top of unfinished ones. We believe that the greatest help would come from someone experienced in game production, who could help us with prioritization and the locking of features.
